Become a Partner in the Prevention of Child Abuse
Organizations that train their staff and volunteers create an environment that better protects children. Perpetrators are drawn to places where they can easily access children. An organization emphasizing prevention through training and appropriate policies is an unwelcome place for a perpetrator of abuse.
Training increases staff and volunteer awareness and teaches adults to recognize the signs that an opportunity exists for abuse to occur and/or the signs that abuse has occurred. It is also critical that staff and volunteers know how to react if they recognize the signs or if a child discloses abuse.

Darkness to Light
Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children program teaches how to prevent, recognize, and report child sexual abuse. Darkness to Light is led by a trained facilitator in a group setting and is offered in both English and Spanish sessions. The training utilizes testimonies from survivors and experts to help inform and prevent child sexual abuse.
Since starting the Darkness to Light training in 2012, Harmony Home CAC has educated thousands of adults around the Permian Basin and continues to train an average of 800 adults yearly. Our goal is to prevent child abuse, and this is a huge step in helping adults understand the importance of recognizing, reacting to, and reporting child sexual abuse. Thanks to United Way of Odessa’s local funding, we can offer this training for free to adults.
