Harmony Home is a special place that depends heavily on volunteers to support its programs and events. Among various tasks, volunteers are trained to serve children and their families at the center, to provide administrative support, and to assist in fundraising and community outreach efforts.

Our program offers multiple opportunities for people who are available to help us on a daily/weekly/monthly basis; for those who are only available in the evenings or on weekends; or for those who are recruited to help with an event or special project.

If you need volunteer hours for something specific or by a certain date please call (432)333-5233 or email Dane at dane@hhcac.org to ensure we can accommodate your needs.

Opportunities

  • Family Greeters interact with children and their families in the play room. Their main purpose is to help us create a welcoming, safe, and comfortable environment for new clients and for children returning to therapy. Family Greeters provide direct client supervision during playroom activities that include, but are not limited to: playing in the playhouse, coloring, playing games, reading, watching movies, and offering snacks in the kitchen. This volunteer position would be considered “Long-Term”.

  • Clerical Support Volunteers assist the Harmony Home staff with light office work and other administrative tasks. These may include, but are not limited to: answering telephones, transferring calls, taking messages, making copies, faxing documents, or working on specific projects.

  • Prevention Support assists the Prevention Program in preparing curriculum for adults and children. Help with data collection regarding knowledge gained for adults and children. These volunteers also serve as a coach, assisting the trained Facilitators in teaching Darkness to Light and Child Safety Matters in the classroom.

  • This particular volunteer position is geared towards individuals who work or have other commitments during the week and are willing to help on weekends or evenings. Special Events Support Volunteers assist staff with various events and fundraisers. Annual events include: Bourbon & Bubbly, Play it Forward Pickleball Tournament, HEB’s “Feast of Sharing”, “Adopt-a-Family" for Christmas, Backpack Drive for our Families, Thanksgiving Drive and some community health fairs. This is not an exhaustive list, and other special events or projects may develop throughout the year that would require volunteer assistance. A volunteer may choose one or more projects to participate in.

  • As a Board Member, you will help the agency establish policy of the Corporation and provide for their implementation, help in the responsibility of obtaining adequate funding for the agency through fundraising, ensure that all agencies business activities conform to the State and Federal Law, recruit other Board members and elect officers. A vital role of a Board Member is to share our vision, and mission to all community members.

  • Become a child advocate! We believe adults should take proactive steps to protect children from the risk of abuse. Young children cannot take responsibility for their own safety, and it requires a community effort to prevent, recognize and respond appropriately to child abuse. Join the fight to end abuse. Learn the signs, symptoms, and myths of child abuse and share this information with others. Darkness to Light Training is offered free of charge thanks to The United Way of Odessa to all adults throughout our community. Click here for more information.
